Celestial Green Ventures is helping to protect the vast Trocano REDD Project area of natural rainforest in the Amazonas region of Brazil, in cooperation with the Municipality of Borba; the location of the Trocano Project area.
The Trocano Araretama Project is a REDD+ project (Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation) situated in the Municipality of Borba, which is on the banks of the Madeira River (a major tributary of the Amazon River) around 200km south of Manaus. The project area covers a vast area of natural forest in the Amazon rainforest – over 1.3 million hectares in total (this is the equivalent of more than 1.6 million football pitches!).
It is worth considering the project’s high value for biodiversity maintenance and social context of the communities; the benefits that will be observed from the project contribute to the maintenance of global climate.
The Municipality of Borba has distinctive cultural diversity and the communities within the area have an important and inclusive role in maintaining the integrity and success of the Trocano Project. Celestial Green Ventures has worked closely with the community leaders and City Hall representatives to ensure that the inhabitants fully informed and in acceptance of the Trocano Project.
It is crucial for the success of the Trocano Project that the community members are the central drivers of the project itself, and for the global community as a whole. They understand they have an important role in the mitigation of climate change, and are engaged and empowered by the actions of Celestial Green Ventures and the opportunities the Trocano Project can bring them.
